Don't forget we are having a second day of FREE MICROCHIPPING for dogs. The Dogs Trust will be at the surgery on Tuesday 24th May 11am to 3.30pm. No appointment needed, just turn up at the surgery.
One of our clients have asked if we know of any students that need some work experience and would like to help out at lambing time. They have 600 ewes to lamb indoors. For more details ring us at the surgery on 01873 840167.
Some of you might have already met our locum TB tester Stefan Craus. He's Romanian and this is his first job in the UK, but his English is very good and seems to be settling well. He enjoys climbing and hill walking and is very good at map reading!
We hosted a very successful microchipping day in conjunction with the Dogs Trust. 145 dogs were chipped on February 2nd the majority of which belonged to our clients. It will be a legal requirement to have all dogs microchipped from April this year, so if you missed this day and would like us to host another one please let us know as we will do so if there is enough demand.
In December we held a Calf Tracker Meeting which was very well attended and kindly sponsered by MSD. Anyone needing any further information please ring the office.
It will soon be compulsory for all dogs to be microchipped and to help you comply with this we have invited the Dog's Trust to hold a Free Microchipping day at the practice. As a result the Dog's Trust Campaigns Team will be here at Farm First Vets on Tuesday 2nd February from 11am to 3.30pm to microchip any dogs that are brought along on the day. You do not need to make an appointment, just turn up with your dog(s).
On Wednesday 29th July along with staff from Tyndale & Belmont Vets we successfully completed 10 miles in a canoe down the River Wye without anyone falling in!!
On Monday 31st August the ladies from the practice completed the horse ride. Special mention should go to Tracy who endured the whole ride on a jogging horse. She has not ridden in recent years, so came into the office the next morning walking like a cross between John Wayne & Clint Eastwood! Rob was relieved we all stayed on and has agreed to run a half marathon for the miles he didn't do on a horse.
WE ARE GETTING ON OUR HORSES, BIKES AND IN OUR CANOES FOR CHARITY
As part of XL Vets we are aiming to collectively travel around the world, which equates to each practice needing to complete 453.95 miles WITHOUT AN ENGINE!!
In conjunction with Farming Connect ,we held a Winter Herd Health Check meeting on 9th December, which was very well attended. Topics discussed included BVD control, liver fluke and Cattle Health schemes. If you missed the meeting, but would like to know more about any of these subjects, please ring us at the office on 01873 840167.
Along with the other businesses at The Bryn Garage we held an open day on Friday 6th June. Clients who came along were able to look behind the scenes at the new premises. Several of our suppliers came along with trade stands and demonstrated things such as how to correctly tube cows at drying off. There was a competition to guess the weight of two Ryeland lambs. There were 3 correct guesses of 64.5kg and the winner of the Kindle, whose name was drawn out of a hat, was Phoebe Chandler. The winner of the Eprinex coat was Matthew Evans who correctly guessed 230 sweets in the jar.
